Author John Montandon and his new book, By His Own Blood, to be featured in the AIDS Memorial Quilt display in Washington, DC.

LOS ANGELES, CA / July 16, 2012 - As part of the month-long 25th International AIDS Conference in Washington, DC, Rockford Brownstone Publishing has announced that author John Montandon and his new book, By His Own Blood, are being featured as part of the event. Mr. Montandon will be the guest of The NAMES Project Foundation and will meet visitors and participants in a book signing and reading on July 24th at the Quilt 2012 Store in Farragut Square. The book store is located at 1030 17th Street, NW, three blocks from the White House. The event starts at 4:00 PM EST.

In addition, Montandon will dedicate the "Doc" Montandon Memorial AIDS Quilt patch to his father as part of the program. The 6' x 3' AIDS Quilt panel will be displayed for the first time as a part of 48,000 panels being featured from July 21st through the 25th at the National Mall from 8th to 14th Streets and at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in the nation's capital. The Memorial AIDS Quilt has grown to become an enormous exhibit at 1.3 million square feet (50 miles long) and weighing 54 tons.

The NAMES Project Foundation, a non-profit organization headquartered in Atlanta, GA, was founded in 1987 to be the custodian of the AIDS Memorial Quilt and associated document and media archives to foster healing, heighten awareness, and inspire action in the struggle against HIV/AIDS. 2012 also marks the 25th anniversary of The NAMES Project Foundation.

By His Own Blood, which is based on a true story, was recently recognized as the winner of the 2012 International Book Award for best Non-Fiction Narrative. In his book, Montandon discloses the incredible true account of his father's horrific death and the author's search for answers and healing. In the story, the writer's father, Doc Montandon, was given a blood transfusion tainted with the HIV virus during surgery and was refused treatment after having developed AIDS. To make matters worse, the ordeal was covered up and medical assistance to care for his father was almost impossible to obtain at the beginning of the AIDS pandemic. Doc, a retired Texas cotton farmer, suffered terribly and died not knowing why or how he was infected.
